500 jaar nadat musici uit de Lage Landen in heel Europa furore maakten, blijven onze contreien een keurmerk voor polyfonie. Het levende bewijs: Dionysos Now!, een van de meest opwindende oudemuziekformaties van nu. Dat juist Adriaen Willaert, ooit de ster-kapelmeester van de San Marco in Venetië, in het oog staat van de storm die tenor en oprichter Tore Tom Denys wil ontketenen, is geen toeval: met het West-Vlaamse Roeselare delen ze dezelfde geboortegrond. Willaerts Missa Mittit ad Virginem verscheen dankzij dit ensemble voor het eerst op cd en siert nu ook onze concertaffiche.

Over Dionysos Now!
Zes stemmen, tonnen ervaring, een ijzersterke overtuiging en een onvermoeibare drive: dat is het kapitaal van Dionysos Now!, het in 2020 gestarte passieproject van de Belgische tenor Tore Tom Denys. Met Wenen als thuisbasis en wereldwijde concertervaring, zetten de zangers zich onverdroten in als ambassadeurs van de Frans-Vlaamse polyfonisten. Vertrekpunt zijn steeds de originele manuscripten en drukken die de voetsporen dragen van componisten als Adriaen Willaert, Denys’ stadsgenoot en ultieme bron van inspiratie. Maar de vertolkingen van het ensemble staan met beide benen in het heden, dankzij het stemmenspel op het scherp van de snede en de immersieve kwaliteit van de ensemblesound die zich als een kathedraal van klank verheft uit de individuele partijen. Met drie opnames op vinyl gewijd aan Willaert kiest het ensemble ook qua discografie voor kwaliteit, duurzaamheid en originaliteit.

Adriaan Willaert's forgotten masterpiece
500 years after musicians from the Low Countries caused a furore across Europe, our part of the world remains a hallmark for polyphony. Living proof: Dionysos Now!, one of today's most exciting early music ensembles. It is no coincidence that it is precisely Adriaen Willaert who is in the eye of the storm that tenor and founder Tore Tom Denys wishess to unleash: with the West Flemish town of Roeselare they share the same native soil. Willaert's Missa Mittit ad Virginem first appeared on CD thanks to this ensemble, and now also takes pride of place on our concert programme.

With Vienna as their home base and worldwide concert experience, the singers are relentlessly committed as ambassadors of the Franco-Flemish polyphonists. The starting point is always the original manuscripts and printed sources that bear the footprints of composers like Adriaen Willaert, Denys' fellow townsman and ultimate source of inspiration. But the ensemble's interpretations stand with both feet in the present, thanks to the cutting-edge vocal interplay and the immersive quality of the ensemble sound that rises from the individual parts like a cathedral of sound. With three recordings on vinyl dedicated to Willaert, the ensemble also opts for quality, durability and originality as regards their discography.
